We provide here the manuscript processes that need to be followed for success (and time efficiency).
Papers lead by a group member
- First submission
- Prepare the detailed outline of the paper with all the sections and paragraphs (introduction, methods, results, discussion), a sentence description for each, and sketches of the figures.
- Discuss the outline with other member(s) of the group for feedback.
- Validate the outline with Anthony and identify potential target journals.
- Identify a representative article from the target journal and write the manuscript following this as a template. Note that the manuscript should be written using Google doc or overleaf.
- Make sure that you complied with all the items in the manuscript checklist.
- Have the manuscript read by at least one of your labmates.
- Make adequate modifications and go back to your labmate(s) until sounds good.
- Submit the draft manuscript to Anthony. At this stage, Anthony will go over the manuscript and provide general feedbacks (no modifications at the sentence level); likely using paper and red pen. If major modifications are needed, go back to your labmate(s) with a revised version if necessary before giving back to Anthony. Note that this process can take several cycles.
- Make your minor modifications according to Anthony’s suggestions and submit to Anthony for deep paper editing.
- Share with collaborators/co-authors
- Submit and wait for success
- Revisions
- Prepare your ideal responses to address the reviewers’ comments and questions.
- Lay out the corresponding ToDo list of things to be done to support your responses to the reviewers and put them in the corresponding Trello board.
- Discuss your responses and ToDo list with Anthony and update the Trello board accordingly.
- Perform the extra work and writing following the appropriate process for writing.
- Collaborative papers not lead by a group member
- Bring the paper to Anthony for a quick glance. Three cases occur:
- modifications suggested prior to deep editing by Anthony (then following appropriate manuscript writing process).
- suitable for deep editing by Anthony (then following appropriate manuscript writing process).
- no major work required: send to collaborators for submission.
